Crack cocaine is derived from powder cocaine

Crack cocaine is derived from powder cocaine in a smokeable form. It is a white or cream wax-like solid, which is usually sold at street level in small lumps or 'rocks'. The name 'crack' may also be derived from the cracking sound that is made when rocks are smoked. A hair test for cocaine followed by a positive result does not distinguish between cocaine in the smoked or powder form. Cocaine in both the smoked and powder form are both Class A drugs which attach with it the illegality of the activity / possession.
